Maryland GIS

I found alot of great free downloads at www.dnr.state.md.us/gis for use in gis including orthophoto quads, Lidar Data, and index grids for USGS 1/4 quads. Actual DRG's of the 1/4 quads weren't present. This information was easy to navigate anyway and it simply walked you through the process of narrowing it down, starting with county. I had success finding free DRG's of all of maryland at www.runet.edu:8800/%7Egeoserve/DRGs.html, a site from Radford University's Geography department. They also have Virginia, West Virginia, and D.C., as well as partials of a number of other states, including Delaware as well. All metafile data is stated on the page is available as a download as well. Also of note, though most don't have a great amount of data yet, I happened on a few sites that seemed to be convinced they would eventually gain all that free data for the entire country and place it on their site for easy access. One such site was Libre.redjar.org/maps. Seems like a great idea but a slow process, however if it gets accomplished, its ease would greatly simplify the process of these searches, something to keep an eye on I figure...
