Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts  Degree in Geology*
*effective for students entering the program Fall 2001 or later

The BA program is designed to give students greater flexibility in designing a program of study tailored to their specialized interests in geology and the related sciences.

2. Minimum requirements in the major 

All students must complete:

EEES 2100 (4 credits) Fundamentals of Geology  or   EEES 1010 Physical Geology (3)
EEES 2210 (4 credits) Mineralogy
EEES 2220 (3 credits) Megascopic Petrology
EEES 2500 (1 credit)  Computer Applications ...
EEES 3200 (3 credits) Stratigraphy and Sedimentology
or  EEES 4610 (3 credits) Geophysics
EEES 3320 (3 credits) Structural Geology
EEES 4650 (6 credits) Geology Field Course

and:  4 additional geology electives at the 3000- and/or 4000-level 

3.  Related science requirements

MATH 1340 or (MATH 1320 & 1330) or an approved higher level math course
CHEM 1230 & CHEM 1280

and:  7-9 additional credits of approved electives in astronomy, biology (including EEES ecology courses), chemistry, engineering, geography, and/or physics.

 4.  Additional requirements

Students must achieve at least a 2.0 GPA in the major.  Additional geology courses may be taken but only a maximum of 40 credits may be applied toward the degree requirement.  All courses in the major and related areas  (sections 2 & 3 above) may not  be taken as P/NC (pass/no credit).
